Our guest speakers from Amsterdam UMC’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine explain a comparison of HBM with conventional gait models and form a critical perspective on ‘how normal’ normative gait data really is.
Marjolein van der Krogt is sr. researcher and head of Amsterdam UMC laboratory for clinical movement analysis. She has a background as human movement scientist and obtained a PhD focusing on musculoskeletal modeling in cerebral palsy. In her research line, she strives towards a better understanding of movement deviations and their underlying impairments in children with neurological disorders, using musculoskeletal modeling and advanced gait analysis techniques.
Eline Flux is a human movement scientist and currently works as a PhD student to develop methods to measure and influence spasticity. She has over five years of experience with the GRAIL system, mainly analyzing the gait of children with cerebral palsy. For her research master internship, she studied the validity of the HBM model, as incorporated in the GRAIL software. Currently she focusses on developing interactive games aimed to reduce (the effect of) spasticity, for example by providing feedback on the muscle activity during gait.
Laura Oudenhoven combines a clinical position, analyzing gait in children with cerebral palsy for diagnostics as part of their clinical care, with a position as a PhD-researcher. She has over five years of experience at the gait lab. The focus of her PhD project is on maximizing of outcomes of interventions to improve gait in children with cerebral palsy. By implementing real-time clinical gait analyses on the GRAIL within the clinical routine of the hospital, she hopes to improve precision diagnostics for these children.
