CAREN Base

Gait can be looked at in several methodologies. Essential is a way of measuring forces and/or dynamic posture. Perturbation or some form of task will make the patient sustain their balance and the measurements yield information on the quality of the balance during gait.

CAREN offers multiple ways to provide perturbations and dual tasking, capture measurements and provide feedback. With this use, Gait becomes easier to objectify, quantify and categorize.

Unique aspect of the CAREN software is that response of the system can be based on certain behaviour of the subject. Force, posture or EMG for instance can be used as a dedicated trigger to provide a perturbation or correction. this is used for research and rehabilitation.

Balance training during gait is another issue: once a diagnosis has been established, an effective training should lead to better and faster recovery. Positive results are achieved at Sheba with the CAREN system, Initial publications are available regarding improvement of postural control during gait due to the use of CAREN.
