  How does it work?

The D-flow software is the heart of all products. The software combines all hardware components and merges them into a single device. Real-time communication between all components fully immerses the subject into an environment where visuals, the floor (via the motion base and treadmill) and sound respond to the subjects behavior.

What operating system does it work on?

D-flow is designed to operate in real-time under Windows XP and Windows 7 in both 32Bit and 64Bit machines.

What makes CAREN unique compared to other rehabilitation techniques?

CAREN's unique property is the ability to immerse a person in a true multi-sensory experience pertaining to the Visual, auditory, Vestibular, tactile and proprioceptive systems of the human body. Next to that, the D-flow interface enables quick tailoring to patient specific needs and treatment goals.

What are the minimal space requirements for each product?

Depending on the configuration, room requirements vary. Recommended dimensions are:

  • CAREN Base: 4 x 6 x 3.5 mtr (length, width, height) with a pit depth of 0.8 mtr.
  • CAREN Extended: 7 x 9 x 3.6 mtr (length, width, height) with a pit depth of 1.3 mtr.
  • CAREN high-end: 13 x 13 x 8 mtr (length, width, height) with a pit depth of 1.5 mtr.
  • V-gait: 6 x 7 x 3.5 mtr (length, width, height)

If your room dimensions vary from these recommended dimensions, please contact us to see if we can tailor a system configuration that will fit in your facility

What kind of background do operators need to have?

Background knowledge in programming and/or 3D animation is not needed, but can be an advantage.

CAREN's control software (D-Flow) has a scalable modular graphic user interface that allows creating complex experiments without any former knowledge in computer programming and/or 3D animation (although knowledge in these two areas can be very helpful). In clinical rehabilitation settings usually the patient is accompanied by a therapist, and the operator is interfacing with them.

Is D-flow Compatible with my current software tools?

D-flow output data formats are in common file formats like .txt, .csv or .c3d. The data can be further taken into a wide variety of standard processing packages as MATLAB, SPSS, EXCEL and others. With regard to 3D assets and environments, D-flow is compatible with all leading 3D pckaes on the market and can import data from programs like MAYA, XSI, 3DMAX and others.

I don’t have time to process all data being recorded during may patient care sessions. What does it bring me?

For day-to-day clinical care, Motek Medical recommends to use RSM. This D-flow software component allows patient management, running all applications, storing recorded data and providing an overview of treatment outcomes.

I already have an instrumented treadmill and would like to add Virtual Reality to it. Is this possible?

Yes. Depending on the type of instrumented treadmill, its currently possible. ( in some cases it will require us to write a treadmill driver. Adding D-flow software to your lab allows combining your instrumented treadmill with the D-flow control software offering you the opportunity to add syncronised Virtual Reality to your set-up.
